PTE Marks Distribution PTE Marks Distribution PTE Marks Distribution PTE Marks Distribution

The PTE Marks Distribution is unlike any other English competency tests. Each section can give you 90 points maximum. There are a total of 20 tasks in PTE, out of which 11 tasks contribute marks towards two sections. For instance, let’s consider Read Aloud from the Speaking section. In this task you are given a paragraph which you will have to read loudly. Now in this task, because you read the task loudly, you get the speaking score, but you also read the paragraph, so you get the reading score as well.

There are three levels of difficulty in the tasks in PTE:

  1. High Priority Tasks
  2. Medium Priority Tasks
  3. Low priority Tasks

High Priority Tasks:

These are the tasks which contribute heavily towards two sections. The tasks include:

  1. Read Aloud
  2. Repeat Sentence
  3. Write from Dictation
  4. Reading and Writing – Fill in the Blanks

Read Aloud:

You would get around 6 to 7 questions of this type. Each question contributes 15 points. This task contributes towards Reading and Speaking sections. It accounts for around 44.3 points in total, out of which it contributes 22.2 in the Speaking section and 22.1 in the Reading section.

Repeat Sentence:

You would get around 10 to 12 questions of this type. It contributes around 13 points for each question and contributes towards the Listening and Speaking sections. It accounts for around 51.8 points altogether, out of which 32.1 points go to Speaking and 19.7 go towards Listening.

Write from Dictation:

You would get around 3 to 4 questions of this type. It contributes marks towards the Listening and the Writing sections. This question type has a different marking criterion. You get 1 point for every correct word that you write in a sentence. It can give you a total of 46.5 points, out of which 26.8 go to Writing and 19.7 go to the Listening section.

Reading and Writing – Fill in the Blanks:

This is the first question in the Reading section. It is one of the most important questions, as it gives you marks in Reading as well as Writing. You could get around 5 to 6 questions of this type. Here the marks are given according to the number of blanks that you answer correctly (1 mark for each correct blank). It contributes a total of 44.4 points, out of which 22.3 points go towards Writing and 22.1 go towards the Reading section.

These four question types are the most important ones, without which it would be impossible to get the desired scores. So, make sure you pay extra attention and practice these question types daily.

Medium Priority Tasks:

The next in line are the Medium Priority tasks. These are the mixture of individual and partial crediting tasks. These tasks include:

  1. Describe Image
  2. Summarise Spoken Text
